Here are some more pictures of S1H incorporating visible thinking routines into their learning.

The stage 1 ESL group has been using the new bee-bot program and game mats to consolidate the work they have been doing on shapes,the alphabet, colours and positional language. In the attached photo you can see them using the bee-bot (electronic beetle) to move across the game mats. Each student needed to program a series of directions into the beetle in order for it to move into a location on the game mat. The students had a great time but realised how important it was to give clear instructions. The beetle went around in circles quite a few times but through a trial and error process they were able to work out the right directions. They had lots of fun with the different game mats

We have been learning about colours in our English class.
We love reading so we read lots of books with a colour theme. These included “How the Birds got their Colours”, “Winnie the Witch”, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” and “I Went Walking”. We also did lots of Visual arts activities. We made new houses for Winnie the witch, and painted birds just like the ones in the book “How the Birds got their Colours”.
Science is fun. We did some science experiment that involved mixing colours. We used food dyes and water to mix the primary colours of blue, yellow and red. We also mixed colours by putting drops of food colouring onto paper napkins.
We found out that many colours can be made by mixing these 3 colours. Did you know that blue and red makes purple and that blue and yellow makes green? We recorded our results and wrote about our experiments.
